1. Think Ahead
When thinking of filling a role, assess what you need today but also what skills your organization will need in two, five, and ten years. You should conduct your process to meet today’s needs while looking for a candidate who can help you achieve your mid- and long-term goals.
2. Find Themes
When writing a position description, group duties and responsibilities into themes. This will allow you to see areas that have greater collaboration points and also identify areas of need. Both will be helpful to inform your hiring and/or promotion decisions.
3. Focus on the Core Needs
To diversify your candidate pool, think of what is truly important for this person to bring into the role. Do not over-credential your requirements.
4. Have fun during your process!
This is an opportunity to set intentions and inject new energy into your department. You want to get it right and we all do better when things are a little fun.
