The University of Rochester and UR Medicine, a $7B enterprise that houses one of the nation’s leading academic medical centers, is seeking a transformational and highly collaborative professional as its next Associate Vice President for Procurement.
Overseeing enterprise-wide operations for the academic units and health system, the AVP will be charged with transforming and centralizing procurement across the university including procure-to-pay, purchasing, strategic sourcing, and contracting. Crafting the vision to “operate as one” across UR Medicine’s six hospitals and academic business units, the AVP will serve as the executive level procurement leader. Key responsibilities include inventorying a current state assessment of procurement functions and talent, identifying opportunities to reduce operating expenses, developing a go-forward strategic GPO partnership, and utilizing value analysis information to support key management decisions.
Position Summary
The Associate Vice President for Procurement will provide overall organizational leadership for all strategic sourcing, contracting, and procure-to-pay functions for the University of Rochester, including the university’s academic units and its health system. The AVP of Procurement will work closely with other senior leaders to align procurement strategies with overall business objectives, driving efficiency and innovation in the procurement process. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of leading large procurement teams, effectively demonstrating cost savings, and implementing best practices and transformation in procurement. They will also be adept at risk management, including risks from supply chain disruptions and other procurement-related risks. This role demands excellent leadership, communication, and analytical skills, as well as the ability to build strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external suppliers.
Position Requirements
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, or a related field required.
- Master's degree preferred.
Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- 10+ years of experience in procurement or supply chain management at a health system or academic medical center.
- Experience with Vizient (GPO)/Captis strongly preferred.
- While not required, Workday experience is a plus.
- Demonstrates strength working cross-functionally to drive issue resolution.
- Ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communications, listening, and presentation skills.

Compensation
An attractive compensation and benefits package will be offered commensurate with the candidate’s experience, with a target base salary range of $250,000 to $300,000 annually. Individual annual compensation packages will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
