Presbyterian Healthcare Services, a premier integrated $6B delivery system in New Mexico with nine hospitals and over 550,000 covered lives, is seeking a high qualified and collaborative finance professional as its next corporate controller and Chief Accounting Officer.
As a senior leader reporting directly to the system CFO, this executive will hold a highly visible role shaping finance transformation initiatives for Presbyterian’s delivery system and health plan. Key near-term priorities include merging close processes, transitioning to a new ERP (Workday), and building a relationship with PHS’s go-forward auditors. The VP improves all areas of accounting operations and compliance, with a focus on PHS’s system-wide integration, accuracy, timeliness, and financial reporting in line with the go-forward finance operating model. They also serve as a senior level advisor for health system executives (including the system CFO, acute delivery system CFO, medical group CFO, health plan CFO, and VP of financial planning and analytics) on the financial position of Presbyterian Health System.

Position Summary
- Responsible for the timely and accurate maintenance of general ledger, transaction and financial management reporting including monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements, reconciliations, and management reports.
- Oversees financial accounting functions and data processing, ensuring accounting procedures are being followed utilizing GAAP.
- Act as a liaison between the financial and operating teams, relaying all information regarding department budget to actuals reports.
- Manages PHS’s external financial reporting process.
- Manages the timeliness and completeness of monthly, quarterly and annual reconciliations and reports to support continuous external auditing and financial reporting integrity for senior leadership and the Board of Directors specifically the Finance Committees and Compliance & Audit Committee.
- Establishes and maintains comprehensive internal controls designed to mitigate risk, protect assets and support the financial infrastructure of PHS.
- Designs internal controls that provide assurance in achieving specified objectives including: 1) effectiveness and efficiency of operations, 2) compliance with laws and regulations and 3) reliability of financial reporting. Ensures appropriate financial systems and internal controls are in place to safeguard PHS’s assets and accounts are appropriately maintained to properly reflect accurate financial data.
- Monitors and oversees all PHS assets and liability accounts; ensures proper accounting methodology, techniques, policies and reconciliations are adopted throughout the PHS system operations.
Position Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or a related field required.
- Masters’ degree preferred.
- CPA designation preferred.
- 8-10 years of progressive experience in healthcare finance or large integrated delivery networks.
- Experience in financial operations and controls, treasury and capital structure management, external audits, bond financing and risk management.
- Demonstrated ability to lead a team and drive continuous process improvement.
- Expertise in GAAP including the ability to research issues, document conclusions and discuss with management and the independent auditors.
- Experience with Workday is a plus.
- Experience with Kaufmann Hall (Syntellis) finance reporting software a plus.
