Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center, along with Interfaith Medical Center, and Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center, are co-operated as One Brooklyn Health System, Inc. (OBHS). Position Summary
The Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) is responsible for the practice of Nursing by ensuring consistency in the standard of nursing care across all clinical settings. As a member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), the CNO supports and facilitates an interdisciplinary team approach to the overall delivery of care to patients, families, and the community. This includes creating an environment in which collaboration is valued and excellence in clinical care and education is promoted and achieved. The CNO, in partnership with the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), leads and supports quality, safety and innovation initiatives. Brookdale’s CNO works collaboratively with the CNOs at other OBHS entities and ensures the vision of and the advancement of the profession of Nursing at Brookdale.
Position Requirements
Education:
- BSN and Master’s degree (MBA, MHA, MSN) is required. Doctorate or active pursuit of a Doctorate is a plus.
Experience:
- Ten years of nursing experience is required. At least seven years of experience in a nursing leadership role.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Ability to build alliances and lead staff and projects.
- Experience in healthcare administration in a large and complex setting.
- Demonstrates honesty, integrity, and follow through on commitments, anticipates internal/external customer needs and meets expectations, strives for collaboration, supports others and team results, ability to manage different perspectives and find win-win solutions.
- Recent hospital/health system experience with direct responsibility for cost/revenue centers, experience designing business plans, and experience in a large complex academic medical center is preferred.
- Demonstrated leadership and complex organizational management skills.
- Provides leadership towards excellence in service and quality care.
- Ability to inspire staff and align them with Brookdale’s transformation program.
- Strong financial/analytical skills, verbal/written communication skills, problem identification and resolution skills, decision-making ability, and the ability to develop/mentor management team.
- Strong operational skills; ability to recognize workflow problems and redesign new process/workflow and create buy-in from all customers on change; and the ability to initiate and manage change.
- Motivates and coaches staff in an effective manner.
- The ability to work with physicians, staff and professionals in multiple settings and locations and to promote diversity in the workplace.
- Strong negotiation skills.
- Ability to fully utilize Brookdale’s electronic record systems, equipment and other healthcare systems relevant to this position.
- Well-developed planning, organizational development and business skills.
- Experience with labor relations strongly preferred.
Required License
- Eligibility for NYS RN nursing license required. Active NYS RN license preferred.
Compensation
Compensation arrangements are excellent and commensurate with both experience and achievement.
