Opportunity

Mount Sinai Health System – one of the national’s most prestigious academic medical centers paving the way for next generation clinical care, research, teaching, and training – seeks an enterprise-minded financial executive to serve as its next Vice President of Finance for the Icahn School of Medicine in New York City.


Reporting directly to the Senior Vice President of Finance in close partnership with the MSHS Enterprise CFO, the Deans of Academics and Clinical Affairs, and the Department Chairs, this individual serves as the finance executive over the School of Medicine providing senior leadership for fiscal stewardship, budget, accounting, financial strategy, and operations to advance alignment across Mount Sinai’s clinical, research, and education missions.


The Icahn School of Medicine is a company within the fully integrated Mount Sinai Health System. It comprises $3.5B in revenue (of which close to $2B is net patient revenue generated by the School of Medicine’s faculty practice plan, $1B is research and grants revenue, and the rest is teaching revenue) of the health system’s $13B total operating revenue.

Position Summary

  • Work closely with Finance and departmental leadership to promote the financial success of the ISMMS.
  • Lead the monthly interpretation and variance reporting process of financial statements for the research and education missions of the ISMMS. Present financial information to Senior Management and the Board Finance Committee as necessary.
  • Manage relationships with external auditors and provide financial information for disclosure to bondholders and rating agencies.
  • Cash management for the research and education missions of the ISMMS.
  • Monitor and help manage the bidirectional allocation of costs for administrative shared services between the ISMMS and the Hospitals Group.
  • Responsible for preparation of the ISMMS’s annual budget on a timely and accurate basis.
  • Value all potential acquisitions of the ISMMS providing a full complement of analyses, including financial contribution as well as market share impact.
  • Comply with all regulatory requirements including preparation of Federal Facilities and Administrative Cost Rate, Federal Fringe Benefit Rate, tax returns, etc.
  • Member of MSHS Position Control Committee.
  • Management and leadership for ISMMS financial functions including: Annual budget, Education finance, Sponsored programs accounting and finance, Federal research grants and compliance with Uniform Guidance (formerly A-133) regulations, Calculation and accruals of physician performance bonuses as they relate to the faculty practice compensation plans (productivity, quality, etc.)

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • MBA or CPA preferred.
  • Financial leadership experience in a large not-for-profit/academic medical center facility or corporate setting.
  • Experience with federally sponsored research grants and professional educational programs strongly preferred.
  • Experience with Oracle ERP (research and grants module) strongly preferred.
  • Excellent English verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, experience with making presentations to and dealing with senior management, clinical chairs and administrators as the lead finance point of contact for ISMSS.
  • Strong supervisory/management skills.
  • Experience with the New York City market, while not required, is preferred.

Compensation

An attractive compensation, benefits, and relocation package in the $400s range will be offered commensurate with the candidate’s experience.
